Prospect School is committed to a policy of non-discrimination on grounds of disability. All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that prospective pupils with disabilities are not discriminated against and that pupils with disabilities in the school are not disadvantaged compared to any other pupil. An assessment will be made prior to admission to ensure that the school can fulfil the range of needs for every individual. Adjustments will be made which are within the capabilities of the school and which do not severely adversely affect the education of other pupils. Any parent/carer/local authority who has a child with a disability who may require a place at Prospect School should contact the Lead Teacher in order to discuss arrangements which might be made with regard to entry procedures and access to the education provided by the school.
Prospect School is an independent residential special school attached to a children's home, Prospect House. It provides places for up to six boys and girls aged 10 to 16 who have failed to cope in a mainstream environment, all of whom have emotional and behavioural difficulties and some of whom have learning difficulties. Prospect School operates the same term structure as local mainstream schools and has links with local educational provision to facilitate the transfer of children back to mainstream wherever possible.
Prospect School believes that every child matters and tailors the curriculum to meet the special needs of each child attending the school. The national curriculum is followed but at a slower pace than in a mainstream school and there is plenty of time allowed for reinforcement and practice of new skills. Learning takes place in small groups and on an individual basis as appropriate and every child has a tailored learning plan.
Prospect School liaises closely with Prospect House, social workers, parents and carers as appropriate to ensure that the needs of the whole child are met in a supportive holistic manner. The underpinning ethos is care for each individual and respect for others, all staff and pupils are expected to follow these guidelines.
Prospect School's logo is a salamander which sheds its old skin and our motto is "promoting positive change". We like to think that children in our care shed the skin of their previous bad experiences and grow a new one of hope and opportunity.
