Currently, in the academic year 2009 to 2010, the school has a staff of three, one full time Lead Teacher, one part time teacher and one full time teaching assistant. This level of staffing can change due to the needs of the school.
The Lead Teacher, Glynis Day, has over twenty years teaching experience throughout Key Stages 1-4, fifteen of which have been in the area of Special Needs. Glynis holds the Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs, which gives her the right to act as a Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and write Individual Education Programmes (IEPs).
The part time teacher, Alice Smith, is a Science graduate and specialist who has worked in mainstream secondary schools. Alice is experienced at working with modern technology and can give the pupils the technological experiences they need to gain employment skills in the modern world.
The full time teaching assistant, Zoë Green, is an English graduate who combines skill at delivering one to one learning programmes and supporting in class with a caring attitude the children respond to well.
The balance of staff is one of the school's strengths and enables the pupils to benefit from a range of expertise. This is important in a small unit where staff have to fulfil more than one role.
Every lesson is taught by a qualified teacher with a teaching assistant, giving one-to-one support or small group support. A member of the care staff is always present at every lesson to give added support, both academic and pastoral. Teaching staff always have access to a two-way radio, linking with care staff at the adjoining Prospect House, in case of an emergency.
